Surviving a Rain-Drenched Hay Season
Our farm's hay situation hasn't changed much in the past few weeks, but we've learned a lot. We were lucky to harvest a big field of Alfalfa just before bad weather hit. Right now, our barn has this new 2nd cutting Alfalfa and some grass mix from our first cut. We plan to harvest the rest of our fields in early August. After the second cut, we expect our barns to be full of top-quality alfalfa and grass mixes, perfect for feeding your livestock all year.
This season has been eye-opening. Our team has been watching the weather closely, waiting for dry spells long enough for us to work. We've had to learn patience; it's now key to our work. It helps us time our harvest with the good weather. This season has really shown us that, even with modern technology, farming is still at the mercy of Mother Nature.
